Why do I care, you might ask? Well, I was raised by two women in rural Texas in the 1980s. My parent’s friend circle was a small gay community, who celebrated who they were behind closed doors for fear of persecution by southern baptists. I have witnessed discrimination against my family for over 40 years. I love my parents dearly and I lost my stepmom to cancer last year. This gives me a purpose that she would support and be proud of.  In addition, my oldest son, who is 22 years old, is in a relationship with a trans woman who recently transitioned in 2024. They have been best friends since elementary school. Naturally, I want to step up and support the Trans community in any way possible.
